Looking for a fun activity to do? Check out how to make an easy bird feeder out of simple, everyday household items!
What you’ll need
- 2 Liter Bottle
- 2 1/8 inch dowels 9inches long
- 2ft wire or string
- Live mealworms
- Awl
- Needle nose pliers
- Scissors
Instructions
- Empty 2 liter bottle, remove the label and wash with soap and water. Let dry overnight.
- Mark 4 circles 1.5″ in diameter for holes parallel from each other. Make dots under each circle for perching sticks, also parallel.
- Use awl to punch hole on perching dots. Use awl again to start the large circle for cutting.
- Use scissors for cutting 1 ½ inch circles where you made a hole with the awl (above the perch holes). Be sure to have no sharp edges after cutting the holes.
- Push both 9inch dowels through parallel, small perching holes.
- Use awl to punch another hole at the bottom of the bottle.
- Bend one end of the wire, shaping as a hook, using the needle nose pliers.
- Hook to the hole made at the bottom of the bottle.
- Make a big hook at the other end of the wire and hook around the neck of the bottle. (Cut wire accordingly to appropriate size for hanging).
- Take off bottle cap and put meal worms inside.
- Be sure to clean bird feeder regularly to avoid spreading diseases using a 10% bleach and water mixture.
- Hang it outside for you and the birds to enjoy!
